Photographing an intimate backyard wedding
An all-to-common story during the pandemic…..a couple planning to get married in 2020 is forced to reschedule their wedding (actually twice in this case). That said, Grace & Joe were gracious enough to have me photograph their small family-only ceremony, with their full party scheduled for later this year. Given the turmoil of 2020, on a warm sunny day last September, everything finally came together perfectly for the couple. We started the day at the Oakbrook Bath & Tennis Club for the first look and portraits. We then headed to one of my favorites places, Graue Mill & Fullersburg Woods. Fun fact, I actually grew up nearby, and as a child I use to take nature photos in the area. Between the historic grain mill, views of the river, and nearby nature paths, it’s a beautiful spot for photos with a variety of backdrops. After creating some fun portraits of the couple, we headed to a family member’s residence in Burr Ridge for the ceremony. The decor was perfectly whimsical and unique to them (Joe being a Star Wars fan, inserted baby Yoda in the tree). The day was full of laughter and emotion for the couple and their family, and I’m so happy for them with how amazing it was.
I cannot thank Grace & Joe enough allowing me to be a part of their journey. Can’t wait for their wedding reception later this year!
