Photographing a Field Museum Wedding

Lesley and Andrew’s wedding at the Field Museum was an unforgettable celebration filled with elegance, love, and high-energy moments. The grandeur of this iconic Chicago venue, paired with the couple’s sweet and fun-loving personalities, made for a truly magical day.

Getting Ready & First Look on the Riverwalk

The couple began their wedding day at the Westin River North, where they got ready surrounded by close friends and family. You could feel the excitement in the air, and one of the most touching moments was Andrew’s reaction to seeing Lesley for the first time. They shared their first look in a private space along the Chicago River, and Andrew’s expression of pure joy was a highlight of the day. Following this heartfelt moment, we had a blast creating fun wedding party portraits on the historic LaSalle Street Bridge, which provided the perfect view of the city’s architecture along the river. We then headed to the museum to take advantage of the classic white exterior for portraits. The grand steps and towering columns provided the perfect backdrop for timeless wedding photos.

Ceremony Beneath a Dinosaur

The ceremony took place inside the Field Museum, where the couple exchanged vows beneath a towering spinosaurus—a truly one of kind feature in Chicago. The museum’s vast halls and dramatic lighting created an intimate yet grand atmosphere, making this ceremony one for the books. The elegant floral arrangements by Kehoe Designs, featuring deep red roses, purple orchids, and lush greenery, perfectly complemented the modern and sophisticated aesthetic of the evening.

A High-Energy Reception

The reception was nothing short of spectacular. The candlelit ambiance set the stage for an unforgettable evening filled with emotional speeches, incredible music, and nonstop dancing. One of the most memorable moments was when Lesley—an amazing singer—took the stage with the band and wowed the crowd. The couple’s first dance was another standout, with Andrew spinning Lesley across the dance floor, creating some picture perfect moments. Families and friends came together to celebrate in a night filled with love and energy, making for some epic dance floor photos.

Photographing a wedding at the Field Museum is always an adventure. The grand space requires a strategic approach to lighting, and with so much ground to cover, you have to be up for the challenge. Having photographed at this venue before, I was prepared to make the most of its dramatic architecture and capture the couple’s love story in a truly iconic setting.

Lesley and Andrew’s wedding was an absolute dream to document, and I’m so grateful to have been a part of their special day. Wishing them a lifetime of love and happiness!
