Photographing a destination wedding in Greece
To date, Candice & Jason’s destination wedding in Tasgarada, Greece is the most picturesque location I’ve photographed. This Mediterranean village is located on the eastern slopes of the Pelion Mountains. Known for steep cliffs that surround secluded beaches, the landscape is overwhelmingly lush, even in September.
The guest hotel and reception was hosted at the Lost Unicorn Hotel (I’m not making the name up). This 19th century mansion is filled to the brim with old-world charm, and run by a husband-wife team who are simply amazing. I hope my photos do it justice, but you honestly have to see for yourself. With just eight guest rooms, the wedding party essentially took over for the better part of the week. Again it’s possibly the most amazing venue I’ve photographed. The first look took place on the roof, and then we wandered around the town square and terraced gardens simply making pictures. Everywhere you looked offered another stunning backdrop. Candice & Jason were absolutely fantastic to work with, and even after the beaches, views, vineyards, hikes and 5-star meals….photographing the couple was the highlight of the trip.
The ceremony took place in front of a 1000 year old “plane tree” in the town square. The trunk was enormous and actually made for a great overhead vantage point. I truly appreciate when the ceremony is so personal (the bride’s brother officiated). I found it especially touching when Candice said her vows not only to Jason, but also to his children and promised to be the best stepmom she could.
The dinner and reception were held outside overlooking the terraced gardens. As the sun set, the plant covered pergola was lit by just strands of bulbs. No decor needed for a place as beautiful as this, and the lighting was perfect for the night portraits we created. Also for a small wedding of 20 people, they knew how to party! Band played well into the night, and I’ll just say brunch was very much needed the next day.
I cannot thank Candice & Jason enough for allowing me to be a part of their wedding day. However photo-wise, the best was yet to come: Trash The Dress!
