I recently got to photograph the 2015 Chicago Polar Plunge benefiting the Special Olympics with the good folks at Chicago Photo Press. It was quite honestly one of the more challenging assignments I've been on. I was fitted with a Chicago Fire Department "dry suit," used in cold weather rescue operations, and spent about two hours wading around in the water. Though not exactly insulated, I was far better off than the brave souls jumping into Lake Michigan dressed in swimsuits, halloween-esque costumes, or even prom dresses (above). I had a great time shooting participants barreling into the water, but probably the biggest headache was keeping said water off my lens (click here to see what I'm talking about). Getting to photograph celebrities Vince Vaughn and Lady Gaga was a hilarious added bonus. Can't wait to jump back in next year!
